Observatory of Fédérations (ODF)

CÉRIUM Unit

The chief aim of the Observatory of Federations is to promote the development of knowledge related to the study of federations worldwide. Its program focuses on different facets of the organization of federal states, such as democratic representation of member states, elections, legal and constitutional frameworks, fiscal federalism, and interstate relations.

The Observatory was not only founded for the purpose of providing the scientific community with a network to reflect upon these themes, but also to create a space for public discussion of current debates regarding the organization of federal states in the world. Furthermore, the Observatory seeks to promote excellence in research and teaching through the organization of conferences and colloquiums on themes related to the study of federations. ODF’s bimonthly bulletin offers a commentary on current federal issues and summarizes its members’ principal research and other activities.
