Strategic Plan

With the political climate in Quebec and in the rest of Canada having evolved considerably since the founding of The Federal Idea, the Board of Directors and the Board of Governors are pursuing new objectives for the years ahead:

A VIGOROUS RESEARCH PROGRAM

For the foreseeable future, The Federal Idea’s research program has been designed to focus on five topics:

  • Federalism and energy;
  • Intergovernmental relations;
  • Canada’s federal political culture;
  • Canadian federalism and diversity management;
  • Federalism, economic development and prosperity

The Federal Idea activities will not however restrict themselves to these topics, as the organization wishes to maintain flexibility to react via its publications and other activities to events and debates which may emerge relating to federalism.

PUBLIC OPINION

The Federal Idea plans to develop a partnership with Vox Pop Labs, a social enterprise in public-opinion research, with the goal of producing data concerning Canadians’ attitudes towards their federation and on federalism in general.

PARTNERSHIP WITH RESEARCH INSTITUTES AND A CANADA-WIDE NETWORK

Since its founding, The Federal Idea has been active primarily in Quebec. On occasion, its activities, publications and research projects have led it to collaborate with other research centres and think tanks. We plan to increase these partnership opportunities by making additional efforts to strongly connect with research institutes whose mission may be compatible with that of The Federal Idea.

YOUTH MOBILISATION PROGRAM

The Federal Idea will soon launch a youth recruitment campaign, including an exchange program, publications and networking activities set according to the stakes and points of view which call out specifically to the youth under 35 years old.
